Looking for a Reno Event this weekend? Look no further! Reno is Artown! Join the Biggest Little City for the 24-Hour Mural Marathon happening this Friday and Saturday, July 10th through the 11th.
Selected Artists will compete for the grand prize while painting individual murals on one of seven (7) panels on the exterior of the Circus Circus main building facing Virginia Street. All murals will remain on display on the Circus Circus Building for an entire year, until the third annual competition. This will be a welcoming message to all who travel south on Virginia Street and a permanent art installation, which will benefit the community and beautify the downtown area.
Each artist will receive a stipend of $750 for materials, but will be responsible for his or her own equipment and labor. Entry submission is now closed and the artists selected are Arthur Bryce Chisholm, David Cherry, Heidi Barnett, Stephane Cellier, Anthony Padilla, a team of Asa Kennedy and Derek Miller, and lastly, Danielle Rumbaugh. There are also two alternates, Amerique Powell and Steve Machutta.
The competition will be 10 a.m. on July 10th to 10 a.m. on the 11th. There are cash prizes for first ($2,000), second ($1,000) and third place ($500). There will also be food vendors, a Red Bull DJ, an outside bar featuring Red Bull and Jack Daniels beverages and of course more art. A portion of Virginia Street between 5th and 6th street will be closed for the event, a 24-hour show open to any and all viewers. Reno is your place for events, and this is an event you will not want to miss!
